Inside Housing has announced a new editor, with the promotion of its long-standing deputy to the top job.
Martin Hilditch will replace the current editor Emma Maier on 18 February.
Ms Maier, who was appointed editor of Inside Housing in July 2014, is moving to take a broader role within the magazine’s publishing company Ocean Media Group.
Mr Hilditch has worked for Inside Housing since 2005, initially as a reporter before being promoted to news editor, deputy editor and finally managing editor.
Ms Maier said: “It has been a real privilege to lead Inside Housing’s talented editorial team and to work alongside the sector as it has navigated politically and economically challenging waters. “Martin is an exceptional journalist and I am delighted that he will become Inside Housing’s 10th editor.”
Mr Hilditch added: “I’m delighted to be taking over as editor of Inside Housing – particularly at such an important time for the sector.
“It’s an honour to work with one of the most talented editorial teams in the UK and I look forward to building on Inside Housing’s campaigning heritage, while continuing to deliver up-to-the-minute news and exclusive research.”
Under Ms Maier’s editorship, the magazine has won numerous awards including ‘News Provider of the Year’ at the British Journalism Awards in 2017 – beating titles such as the Financial Times, The Sunday Times and The Observer.
Ms Maier was also personally named editor of the year at the British Society of Magazine Editors awards in 2017. Before joining Inside Housing, she worked as editor of titles including the Local Government Chronicle and Materials Recycling Week.
Her new role as portfolio director at Ocean Media Group will see her take responsibility for the company’s client solutions, recruitment, conference, awards and marketing teams as well as editorial.
