The chief executive of a Midlands-based housing association is set to resign #ukhousing

The Midlands-based association yesterday completed the first of two planned mergers, with the smaller South West-based Merlin.

Robert Nettleton, who was chief executive of Merlin, will take over at the merged organisation, which will manage 40,000 homes.

This number is set to increase to 44,000 when the newly-merged organisation merges again with Gloucestershire-based Severn Vale Housing, if it is completed – as expected – in 2019.

No date has yet been confirmed for Ms Jones’ departure, with Bromford saying that the two will continue to work closely as part of the new organisation.

Mr Nettleton was chief executive of Merlin for four years, during which time he led the organisation to deliver 300 affordable homes per year and increased its operating margins and surpluses.

Before that, he was chief executive of the Cornwall association Coastline Housing.

Ms Jones has been chief executive of Bromford for a similar period of time, having taken over from 30-year boss Mick Kent in 2014, but has been at the organisation for over three decades.

She has led the organisation into talks for two mergers and out of the multi-employer Social Housing Pensions Scheme.

Ms Jones, told Inside Housing: “One of the key considerations, and one of the big attractions, in coming together with Merlin to form a new organisation was to ensure we had a robust succession plan in place for the future.

“In Robert, we have someone that we have huge confidence in and who we know will be able to build on Bromford’s social purpose and financial strength so that we can invest even more of our time and money in the things that matter to both existing and future customers.”

Bromford plans to invest £1.5bn in 14,000 new homes over the next 10 years in both the South West and the Midlands. This number would rise to 15,000 if the second merger is completed.

Ms Jones is also an Inside Housing IH50 columnist.
