Clarion will help to deliver 229 homes in Battersea, south London in a development proposed by St William, the joint venture between Berkeley and the National Grid.

The £700m joint venture was formed in 2014 as part of an attempt to use the National Grid’s land reserves to deliver 14,000 homes. Construction is already underway on the site in Battersea, with the first affordable homes scheduled to be delivered in 2019.

The development will include 161 homes for shared ownership and 68 for intermediate rent.

Philip Browne, new business and partnerships director at Clarion, said: “We are excited to be part of this ambitious and innovative project which is breathing life back into disused industrial sites across London and the South East.

“There is an acute shortage in the supply of affordable homes, particularly in the capital, so we are also pleased to be working with St William for the first time to deliver homes for buyers who are struggling to buy outright.”

Alison Dowsett, managing director at St William, said: “This is a really exciting time for us – not only is Prince of Wales Drive our first St William development to be delivered, we are also delighted to be a part of delivering much-needed housing in Zone 1.”
