Mitali Housing Association formally transferred from 17,500-home Network Housing Group to 3,000-home THCH yesterday.

A spokesperson for THCH said the move was in response to a wish from residents to have their homes managed by a local housing provider in Tower Hamlets. NHG operates in a much wider area across London and the south east.

Enayet Sarwar, chair of Mitali Housing Association, said: ’The board believes that its residents and the community would receive a better, local and culturally sensitive service if Mitali joined one of the housing providers already working in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets’.

Under the terms of the transfer, grants will be provided for transferring residents to encourage them to take up employment and educational opportunities.’

Mike Tyrrell, chief executive of THCH, said: ‘This transfer is a perfect fit for both THCH and residents of Mitali Housing Association and I hope our new residents will benefit from the services we provide and the excellent ties we have with the local community’.
