Floods force housing association to evacuate staff and close office
Staff remain shut out of the Sheffield office of a housing association after they were forced to evacuate because of floods that have swept parts of England.
Yorkshire Housing Association was forced to close the office on Barrow Road last Thursday following the severe floods. A total of 28 staff work at the site, which is located close to Meadowhall shopping centre, where dozens of people got trapped.
A spokesperson said contingency plans are in place for staff and stressed that it is “business as usual” despite the office remaining closed.
Nick Atkin, chief executive of Yorkshire Housing, tweeted that he was “really proud” of the staff who had to evacuate at short notice.

The office, which is not customer facing, has suffered flood damage, but the spokesperson said more would be known after a risk assessment is carried out.
Parts of England are again on high alert today because of more heavy rain, with 44 flood warnings in place.
The Yorkshire Housing spokesperson said the association is aware that one of its residents had been affected by a flooded basement. However the water was pumped out and the resident did not need to move.
No other residents are known to be affected at this point, but the spokesperson added: “We are mindful there are flood warnings still in place and are monitoring the situation. Please take care and check traffic updates before you travel.”
