Former L&Q chief executive David Montague has been appointed as the new chair of London-based developer Joseph Homes.
The developer announced the appointment today and said that Mr Montague was the “immediate and obvious choice for the role”.
Joseph Homes is an small developer that has delivered a number of projects across the capital. This includes the 70-home Tramyard development in Balham and the 149-home No 1 Millbrook Park development on the site of the old Mill Hill barracks in north London.
Mr Montague’s appointment, which will start with immediate effect, comes just months ahead of him officially leaving L&Q at the end of the financial year, after nearly three decades at the association and 12 years as its boss.
L&Q announced last month that Fiona Fletcher-Smith would be replacing Mr Montague with immediate effect.
Joseph Homes began in 2008 by founder and chief executive Joseph Rajah. In 2019, it had a turnover of £1.7m and posted a pre-tax loss of £1.4m.
Other developments in the pipeline include 130 homes at One Vinyl Square in Hillingdon, west London, and 130 homes on Parkhouse Street in Camberwell, south London.
Mr Montague said: “Joseph Homes has already accomplished a great deal towards their mission.
“They have set out a strategy that starts with ambition and recognises that people want more from their homes than they are perhaps used to. Over the past 33 years at L&Q I created something as part of a team, which made a lasting and significant impact on where I live.
“The reason I committed so much time to L&Q is because I believed in their mission, and that’s exactly why I decided to join Joseph Homes.
“The mission they’re working towards is both honourable and ambitious and I want to help Joseph Homes make an impact nationally, in both the private and public sectors. At the end of the day we have a responsibility to look after the planet and leave the next generation a better world than the one we have today. What an extraordinary legacy that would be to leave behind.”
