A group of London’s 12 largest housing associations has launched a new professional development programme to increase BAME representation in leadership roles.
The ‘G15 Accelerate’ programme is an 18-month management and leadership development scheme for BAME managers which aims to build a pipeline of talented people and help them progress their careers into leadership roles, according to the group.
Participants will graduate with a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) diploma in strategic leadership and management and once completed they can apply to the CMI to become a chartered member or chartered fellow.
The G15 said: “We want our organisations to reflect the communities that we work in so that the decisions we make are appropriate to the diverse needs of our residents.
“As a sector we employ more people from BAME communities than many other sectors. But we know that we fall short when it comes to BAME people in leadership roles.
“[The scheme] seeks to support people of colour who have the potential to shape the future of our sector, creating more diverse leadership teams within the G15, recognising that diversity is good for business.”
The programme is made up of four elements:
In April 2020 the G15 chief executives signed a BAME diversity pledge committing to a set of actions to improve ethnic diversity of their organisations, including a target to double the BAME proportion on boards to 30% by 2025.
