Data expert HouseMark has announced plans to forecast the impact of the coronavirus crisis on the housing sector.
The business intelligence service, which runs the widely used STAR resident satisfaction survey, said it hopes the forecasting will support social landlords’ response to the pandemic.
Through three data streams – impact monitoring, key performance forecasting and budget forecasting – it intends to publish figures predicting the impact of COVID-19 on areas such as rent arrears, gas safety checks and staffing.
HouseMark hopes the first findings will be available later this month, with numbers now being gathered on how coronavirus and the social distancing measures are affecting operations.
Laurice Ponting, chief executive of HouseMark, said: “We are all seeing first-hand how data is shaping real time policy decisions across the world. Predictive, evidence-based decision-making has never been more important to ensuring that we take the right course of action.
“Our members want to understand now what steps they need to take to manage risk, protect residents, staff and service users, and ensure that business continuity is maintained during these challenging times.”
The Regulator of Social Housing is working on its own coronavirus surveys aimed at identifying the key risks to the sector during the coronavirus pandemic – the first will be available for responses from tomorrow.
