A Portsmouth-based housing association is helping to convert a double-decker bus into a shelter for the homeless.
Vivid, which was formed after a merger between First Wessex and Sentinel in June, is assisting with transforming the vehicle to provide facilities for rough sleepers in and around the city.
Once completed, the shelter will include sleeping pods for up to 12 people, kitchen, toilet and shower and communal seating area – both as a static service and on the move.
Vivid supplied and installed the kitchen for the £5,000 project, which is entirely funded through charity donations.
Ian Kelsey, a carpenter working on scheme, said: “It’s such a fantastic idea to get this bus up and running for the homeless to be able to use this come winter time.”
The project is due to finish in the autumn.
