Radian and Yarlington are discussing options for a “partnership” which they say would deliver long-term benefits for residents, help develop digital services and support more tenants into jobs and careers.

Gary Orr, chief executive of Radian, joined the organisation from Yarlington in October.

A merger between the two would create one of the biggest landlords in the South outside London, with Radian’s current stock around 24,000 homes and Yarlington’s around 10,000.

Mr Orr said: “We’re excited by the potential of this partnership, and with the increased scale and reach it could give us the capacity to do so much more.

“We want to create an organisation that is ready for the future, is a major contributor to addressing the housing needs of Southern and South West England, and together we can continue to provide a fantastic experience for our customers and communities.”

Caroline Moore, who took on the role of managing director at Yarlington following Mr Orr’s departure, said: “Our aim for the new organisation is to be a fantastic place for people to work, to develop and to progress careers. The colleague experience is a key part of our future vision.

“Working together, a new organisation would also be able to achieve more for its customers and towards helping to solve the housing crisis than either could do alone.”

Both Radian, which operates mainly across Hampshire and Berkshire, and Somerset-based Yarlington currently have regulatory ratings of ‘G1 V1’ – the highest possible grade for governance and financial viability.

The former has plans to develop 3,500 homes by 2023, while the latter wants to build 1,500 by 2021.

In a press release, the organisations said: “Radian and Yarlington share similar values, geography is complementary and corporate ambitions are very much aligned – including collaboration, scale and value for money targets.

“Financial viability, performance, people capability and governance of both businesses is strong, providing a great platform on which to build a partnership and deliver more new homes and improvements for customers and the local communities within the South of England.”
