Housing figures, including several chief executives, have been recognised with honours in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Alison Inman, current vice president of the Chartered Institute of Housing; Tony Stacey, chief executive of South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA); Chan Kataria, chief executive of EMH Group; and Geraldine Howley, chief executive of Incommunities, were among those honoured.
Ms Inman, also a board member at Colne and an active presence in the social housing sector for many years, received an OBE.
She said: “I was really surprised and proud. It is not what you do it for and not what you expect, so it’s really nice, and I was really proud it was for services to tenants and not housing.”
Mr Stacey, who has worked is social housing for 38 years, also received an OBE. He said: “SYHA has been at the forefront of ensuring excellent housing services really do sustain communities and help people to realise their full potential.”
His colleague at the organisation, Ruby Smith, head of co-design and improvement, received an MBE for services to her local community.
Mr Kataria was given an OBE for his role in leading East Midlands-based EMH and building it “into one of the country’s most successful and highly regarded social businesses”.
Ms Howley, who also received an OBE, said: “As someone who was brought up in Bradford and built a career here, this honour is an extremely humbling one that I want to share with my family and friends.”
She has led Bradford-based Incommunities since 2003, having started her career as a temporary housing receptionist with Bradford Council more than 35 years ago.
