Inside Housing shortlisted as news provider of the year #ukhousing

The title is listed alongside papers including the Financial Times and The Guardian for the award of the country’s best news service.

All of the work shortlisted in the high-profile British Journalism Awards, organised by trade magazine Press Gazette, has to serve the public interest.

Inside Housing has been nominated as a finalist particularly because of its “investigations into tower block safety both before and after the Grenfell Tower disaster”.

Deputy news editor Sophie Barnes and news editor Peter Apps have also received personal nominations in the specialist journalism category. Mr Apps’ investigation into flammable panels on a high-rise building in Shepherd’s Bush is nominated for investigation of the year.

Inside Housing is the only trade title shortlisted, and one of only two non-national newspapers to make the final. The other, the Manchester Evening News, is recognised in particular for its work following the bombing of the Ariana Grande concert in May.

The full shortlist is:

  • The Guardian
  • Manchester Evening News
  • Financial Times
  • Inside Housing
  • The Telegraph
  • Daily Mail
  • The Sunday Times
  • The Times

“It is an enormous achievement for Inside Housing’s news team to be recognised among a prestigious list of national newspapers,” said editor Emma Maier.

“I’m really proud that our small team has consistently been ahead of the national media, offering the detailed and thorough coverage that our readers expect. This shortlist position – and the 15 others we have gained in the past few weeks – also reflects the importance of housing on the national stage.”
