Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation (KCTMO) will reschedule a meeting to vote on the future of the organisation when it can provide “necessary information” to tenants to make a decision about the management of their homes.
Tenants had sought legal advice over a vote that was due to take place at the AGM which would wind up the TMO and make the council the sole member.
KCTMO said if members did not vote for this option the organisation would have to be wound up immediately and a further meeting would be called 28 days later to confirm the decision. This would mean KCTMO would be wound up without “meaningful consultation and an orderly handover of services”.
However, some tenants were concerned about losing tenant representatives from the KCTMO board and the council becoming the sole member of the board.
When the postponement was announced, Kim Taylor-Smith, deputy leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council, said the council was “disappointed” that KCTMO had decided to adjourn the meeting.
He added: “We have spoken to many residents, and they want certainty over the future of housing stock in the borough. Everyone agrees there is no future role for the TMO.”
In a statement KCTMO said 87% of members at the AGM voted to postpone the meeting. A spokesperson for KCTMO said the AGM will be rescheduled “when the board can provide the necessary information to members for them to make an informed decision about the future management of their homes”.
In the meantime KCTMO will publish answers to questions that tenants raised at the meeting.
