Kier launches repairs reporting app for tenants

A contractor has launched a free smartphone app which enables tenants and companies to report repairs to the company through a mobile phone.

The Kier Repairs app is free to download for customers eligible for repairs, maintenance and facilities management services on their homes and businesses.

The app is currently being piloted in Harlow, Essex, but is now being rolled out nationwide.

It has been designed to simplify the reporting process and includes a camera function which allows customers to take a photo of the problem they are reporting.

Kier said the app not only helps customers accurately describe the fault, but also saves the call centre time in diagnosing how to repair it while giving the opportunity on some occasions to offer solutions over the phone.

The app has been designed in consultation with Harlow Council and its tenant representatives.

Jackie Ducker, Kier’s strategic business improvement director, said:  ‘Harlow Council’s input into the development and communication process has been key in the app’s successful delivery. We look forward to working closely with all our clients to roll this service out to customers across the rest of the country.’

The contractor said the app would also help people with poor English report repairs and that it can be used by friends or family of tenants without a smartphone on their behalf.

Clive Souter, member for housing at Harlow Council, said: ‘This is all about making the repairs and maintenance service more convenient. For smart phone users, apps are now part of their way of life, so to us it made absolute sense to make use of this platform.

‘We’ve worked with housing tenants and Kier during the testing phase to ensure the app is simple and effective. Of course tenants can still talk to us about repairs by phone or by calling in, but I’m confident more and more of our tenants will opt for the convenience of smart phones to sort out repairs and maintenance.’
