London councils review fire safety following Grenfell blaze

Five London councils have announced they will review the fire safety of their tower blocks in light of this morning’s blaze at Grenfell Tower in Kensington.

London councils review fire safety

Redbridge, Barnet, Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Croydon and Lewisham councils have said they intend to investigate what can be done to ensure that their blocks are safe from fire.

Redbridge and Barking and Dagenham councils said they would revisit many of their assessments. Barnet Homes said it would examine the safety of its blocks that have external cladding.

Havering Council said it is conducting inspections of all its buildings, and Lewisham Homes said it would investigate what could be done once further information about Grenfell Tower was available.

Other councils are believed to be considering similar measures, and many have released statements expressing their sympathies for everyone involved in the fire.
