A large Southern-based housing association and a big housing developer have signed a joint venture (JV) agreement to build 500 homes on a site in Weymouth.
Abri and Lovell, which is part of the Morgan Sindall Group, have agreed to work together on the £120m scheme on the outskirts of the Dorset town.
The scheme proposes that 225 of the homes will be for affordable tenures, but the group does not specify the breakdown between social and affordable rent and shared ownership.
The 500 homes will be built alongside a school, care home, local centre, as well as commercial and employment space.
If granted full planning permission, it is anticipated Lovell will start on the main build at the end of the year. Outline planning has now been agreed by Dorset Council, with the JV now expected to submit a reserve matters planning application for the design and mix of the development in the spring.
Abri is the name of the new 34,000-home housing association created after the merger between Radian and Arlington in 2019.
Its geographical footprint now stretches from Brighton to Bristol in the South West of England. The association plans to deliver 10,000 new homes in the next 10 years as part of its new business plan.
James Pennington, director of development at Abri, said: “We know that partnership working is essential if we are to deliver the homes people need. This joint venture with Lovell will provide people with a high-quality, sustainable home and to be part of a community where everyone has the opportunity to belong, grow and thrive.”
