Fayann Simpson, resident board member at L&Q, was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to tenants in social housing.

Ms Simpson, who has spent nearly 20 years working as an involved resident, joined the board in 2018 and has formed part of Dame Judith Hackitt’s Industry Safety Steering Group, following the Grenfell Tower fire.

Ms Simpson has also championed a change in approach to fixed-term tenancies that resulted in L&Q moving all residents with fixed terms to lifetime assured tenancies.

She said she was pleased to have been included in the honours list, adding: “I will also continue striving to improve safety for everyone through my work on the Industry Safety Steering Group. There is no greater priority than safety.”

Jayne Adamson, who works for County Durham-based Believe Housing, was awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to housing and suicide prevention.

Ms Adamson leads a 17-strong team that volunteered to help people struggling with mental health during the pandemic after the housing association saw a 50% increase in the number of people they were supporting.
