A housing association censured by the regulator for massive gas safety failures is considering seeking a large merger partner.
Luminus, based in Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, announced this morning that it is in discussions with regulator the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to seek a takeover.
It comes weeks after long-standing chief executive Chan Abraham resigned.
The organisation was downgraded to a non-compliant G3 rating for governance after the regulator discovered it had up to 1,000 properties without valid gas safety checks.
Its governance was also criticised generally, with the regulator accusing the organisation of “material weakness” in its management of risk.
Several new board members were appointed following the judgement and at the end of June, Mr Abraham left the organisation after almost two decades in charge.
Mike Forrest, chair of the Luminus board said: “After careful consideration, we are exploring the potential with our stakeholders for a merger with an organisation that shares our values and a desire to provide new homes and high-quality services in Cambridgeshire.”
