An East Midlands council is consulting with tenants and leaseholders on bringing its ALMO in-house.
Bassetlaw District Council is considering taking over direct management of its 7,000 homes from A1 Housing, which was established in 2004.
The Labour-led council claims that transferring A1 Housing staff and services back under close control could save £335,000 a year.
Tenants and leaseholders are being invited to put forward their views to a Housing Advisory Group, which will replace tenant representatives on A1 Housing’s board.
Steve Scotthorne, cabinet member for housing at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “A1 Housing has done a great job over the past 13 years, in addition to improving tenants’ homes through the government’s Decent Homes Programme.
“However, since 2012, nearly half of all [ALMOs] have returned to council control and the situation in Bassetlaw is a reflection of what is happing across the country.
“Bringing the management of council housing back in-house will save around £335,000 a year, allowing us to provide opportunities for more money to be invested into things that matter to tenants, such as repairs, estate improvements and housing support.”
The consultation is being carried out by Ipsos Mori.
