Two more large panel blocks are at risk of collapse, the Scottish Government is to take forward sprinkler legislation, and a Belfast housing association plans to move residents out of a block over fire safety concerns
In the news
The Guardian reports that two large panel system tower blocks in Tottenham are at risk of catastrophic collapse – the latest in a worrying line of these types of blocks with safety issues.
A total of 200 families will now be urgently moved out of the Broadwater Farm estate blocks. There are 11 buildings in total on the estate that have structural issues. The two tower blocks are likely to be demolished, the paper reports.

The Independent reports that a law to make sprinklers mandatory in all new social housing is to be taken forward by the Scottish Government in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire, which killed 72 people.
Politics Home reports that the government’s 300,000 homes target has been branded as “meaningless” because it has been left out of the revised National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). To be fair, this document is usually focused on planning rules rather than wider government housing policy.
The website reports that the final version of the NPPF is due to be published in the summer.
Residents who are being forced out of an “unsafe” housing association block will be entitled to claim a total of more than £300,000 in compensation, the Belfast Telegraph reports.
Radius Housing has told residents they will have to move out because of fire safety concerns in the block.
The Guardian’s report on the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee session on the treatment of Grenfell residents after the fire focused on council chief executive Barry Quirk’s alleged comments that the council had been behaving like “a property developer masquerading as a local authority”.
The BBC reported on resident Edward Daffarn’s warning that “Grenfell 2 is in the post” if combustible cladding is not removed from tower blocks across the country.
