Housing Day, a national campaign to raise the profile of social housing and combat myths about social housing, will see organisations using social media to celebrate the work of the sector.

Social landlord Salix Homes, based in Salford, will be live tweeting during a 12-hour night shift to mark the day for the second year running.

Lee Sugden, chief executive, will be heading up the tweetathon live from the Salix Homes first response control room, which monitors more than 400 CCTV cameras across Salford’s tower blocks.

Repairs and maintenance firm United Living will mark the day with activities including redecorating a youth centre in Neath, south Wales, communal litter-picking in Broxtowe, and providing a new greenhouse in Southwark, south London.

Ian Burnett, chief executive of United Living, said: “#HousingDay presents an opportunity for all of our staff across the UK to make a real difference, because by working together as a team we can achieve much more.”

Colchester Borough Homes said it will be populating its social media feeds with anecdotes and testimonials from its tenants, staff and councillors to show its support for the campaign.

Last year, the sector sent 3,000 tweets per hour on #HousingDay 2014, and was trending on Twitter all day.
