Work has started on 333 new homes being delivered through a build-to-rent partnership between Sheffield City Council’s housing company and Sigma Capital Group.
The homes, spread across two developments, form part of developer Sigma’s £800m programme to build 5,000 units for private rent by 2021.
The regeneration arm of energy and services firm Engie – previously Keepmoat Regeneration – will lead on construction for the schemes, worth a combined £43m.
Sheffield Housing Company (SHC) will sell 112 of the homes on the open market, while Sigma’s private rented sector brand (PRS), Simple Life, will let out the other 221.
The schemes will be delivered in two phases, with the PRS units built first.
Sigma, SHC and Engie completed a 24-home scheme through the same investment programme in late 2017.
Work on the new developments is expected to finish in summer next year.
“Simple Life has been created to enable customers to enjoy a better rental experience and to enjoy the freedom and flexibility of renting,” said Andy Beattie, development manager at Sigma Capital.
“We are really pleased to see our relationship with SHC, Engie and Sheffield City Council going from strength to strength and we are grateful for their support, which has been instrumental in enabling us to deliver new homes in Sheffield.”
John Clephan, project director at SHC, said: “We are pleased to be working with partners to provide more new homes in the city for rent and for sale.
“In addition to much-needed housing, this initiative is creating employment and training opportunities, stimulating local economies and breathing new life into communities.”
