A planned strike at a small housing association in Hackney has been called off after management and workers agreed a deal over pay #ukhousing

Workers at Peter Bedford Housing Association, whose chief executive is chair of the G320 group of small London housing associations, had planned to go on strike for five days next week.

The trade union Unite has claimed victory, saying that management agreed to “honour the pay deal they had previous failed to implement”.

Twenty-five workers at the 188-home housing association had planned to strike from 3 December to 7 December after a unanimous vote in favour of industrial action on a 96% turnout.

Adam Lambert, regional officer at Unite, said: “The fact that Unite members were entirely united in solidarity throughout this dispute was vital in forcing management’s hand.

“Hopefully now that Peter Bedford’s management has honoured this years’ pay increase there will be no future problems and we can enjoy harmonious industrial relations in the future.

“Unite will be using the successful formula we have used at Peter Bedford at other housing associations where there are ongoing industrial issues.”

Clare Norton, chief executive of Peter Bedford, told Inside Housing: “We are very pleased that the dispute has been resolved and we will continue to work closely with colleagues to make sure the pay settlement becomes affordable into the future.”
