The social housing sector’s ‘unsung heroes’ were celebrated at an awards ceremony in Manchester last night.
Fourteen individuals and teams walked away with prizes from the Housing Heroes awards, which took place on the eve of the annual Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) conference. The awards are organised by the CIH and Inside Housing.
Notable winners at last night’s event included Maureen Stables of CDS Co-operatives, who won the lifetime achievement in housing award. Ms Stables has chaired CDS since 1982.
Other winners included Radian tenant Marian Green, who won the tenant lifetime contribution prize, Paul Laffey, who won inspirational leader of the year for his work at Burton and District YMCA, and Natasa Dojcinovic, of Stockport Borough Council, who picked up the award for inspirational colleague of the year.
Oliver Herrmann of Wolverhampton Homes won the prize for young professional of the year.
In the team awards, MHS Homes won central service team of the year and Lambeth Living walked away with development or maintenance team of the year.
Before the Housing Heroes awards began, Julie Wass, customer service senior at North Lincolnshire Homes, was named the winner of the Rising Stars competition. Rising Stars, organised by Inside Housing and the CIH, seeks to showcase the talent of housing professionals.
