One of Wales’ largest housing associations has agreed a series of construction contracts worth around £500m over the next 10 years.
Wales & West Housing, which owns around 11,500 homes across the country, plans to build 6,000 affordable homes in the next decade.
It is the first time the association has entered into 10-year contracts.
Eight firms have been awarded the deals: P&B Builders, Jehu Group and Hale Construction in South Wales; T Richard Jones and WB Griffiths & Son in Mid Wales; and Brenig Construction, Anwyl Construction and Seddon Construction in North Wales.
Wales & West said the contracts will secure hundreds of jobs and 500 new apprenticeships.
Shayne Hembrow, deputy chief executive of Wales & West, said: “There is a chronic shortage of affordable housing in Wales and the best way for us to build more homes more efficiently than ever before is through these partnership agreements.
“We’re immensely proud of the fact that we’ve been able to guarantee such a high volume of work for so many companies over the next decade, which will help to secure jobs and provide a boost to the Welsh economy.
“Projects completed by our new partners and other contractors over the next decade will help us to contribute significantly to the Welsh Government’s housebuilding targets.”
Housing associations in Wales have committed to building 75,000 homes by 2036.
