Places for People’s pioneering £1.5bn deal with Surrey County Council could see it work on more than 100 sites, contract documents reveal.
The housing association was named by the local authority as its property joint venture partner in December, with the contract notice posted to the Official Journal for European Union yesterday.
The local authority revealed it had already earmarked 32 sites for development. Other bodies had identified opportunities “across the UK” said the contract notice, adding that these were mainly in the South of England.
“A summary of data provided by participating and interested authorities has indicated a further range of over 100 sites, with potential for over 5,000 units,” said the notice.
Places for People won the contract after a process involving five interested parties. The deal was awarded 60% on quality, 30% on financial considerations and 10% on legal factors.
It is unusual for a county council to take on a development role.
