The Tenant Services Authority will continue to operate until at least 2012, according to its tenant standard manager.

Deborah Ilott spoke out ahead of housing minister Grant Shapps’ hotly anticipated speech to the Chartered Institute of Housing conference this afternoon.

In a separate session Ms Ilott was questioned by tenants about the future of the TSA. Mr Shapps indicated he intends to scrap the regulator in an exclusive interview with Inside Housing last week. He is expected to announce a review of regulation this afternoon.

But Ms Illott said that whatever happened the TSA would be enforcing standards for a significant period to come because any alternative arrangements would take time to put into place.

‘I think the earliest that a new organisation could go live would be April 2012 so we have got two years where you have got our regulatory framework,’ she said.

She thanked the many tenants who she said had been in contact with the TSA with support since Mr Shapps’ interview was published.

And she said that the TSA still had a vital job to do.
