The regulator has rebranded as 'the Regulator of Social Housing' or RSH #ukhousing

It follows the Homes and Communities Agency’s investment functions being rebranded and relaunched as Homes England earlier today.

In a letter to housing providers, Fiona MacGregor, executive director of regulation at the RSH, said a previous review of the HCA “concluded that the HCA’s function as the regulator of social housing should be separated from its investment functions, and established as a standalone body to reaffirm the government’s commitment to a strong, independent regulator with credibility within the sector”.

She added: “This change is to the regulator’s operating name only and does not alter our regulatory framework, approach or powers and we will continue to promote a viable, efficient and well-governed social housing sector able to deliver homes that meet a range of needs.”

Despite the rebranding, until legislation is passed for the regulator to be established as a standalone body, the organisations will both legally remain functions of the HCA.
