Nine in 10 people living in Scotland think that the children of today will find it harder to buy or rent a home when they grow up than the generation before them.
That is the finding of a poll published today by Shelter Scotland as the party launches its Manifesto for Homes ahead of May’s Holyrood election.
The poll of 1,028 adults by Ipsos Mori also found 87% of people think unless many more new affordable homes are built the housing problems will not be tackled. It also found 69% agree that it is harder for them to buy or rent a home now than it was for their parents’ generation.
The findings were published to mark the launch of Manifesto for Homes.
The charity is calling for politicians to commit to four key pledges: deliver a home for everyone in Scotland; meet the needs of every homeless person in Scotland; ‘make renting right’; put housing at the heart of social justice and tackling child poverty.
