The climate change minister has urged social landlords to get involved in the green deal energy efficiency scheme.
In a video address to Inside Housing’s Sustainable Social Housing conference this week, Greg Barker talked of the ‘crucially important role I believe the social housing sector has in the government’s energy efficiency agenda’.
He urged social landlords to get involved in the green deal, either as customers, providers or partners. In return he promised the government would provide ‘a clear long-term policy framework in which you can invest with real confidence’.
Under the green deal, households will be able to receive up to £6,500 of energy efficiency improvements, with the money repaid through fuel bill savings. The scheme is being piloted on social housing in Manchester.
