Sovereign has appointed a former council chief executive as its new chair.
Gordon Holdcroft previously led Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council for five years until 2007 and is also the former vice-chair of Sovereign, having joined the board in 2010.
He replaces Katherine Innes Ker as the chair of the 56,000-home landlord, which operates across the South of England.
It built the fifth most units of any housing association in 2016/17, with 1,225 completions, and plans to increase its output to 1,500 a year.
“I’m pleased to take on the challenge as the new chair of Sovereign. It’s a business I know well and takes its social purpose seriously, working to build and provide affordable homes for people to put down roots and achieve their aspirations,” said Mr Holdcroft.
“We can’t do all this alone, however, and we can only make a real and lasting difference for our communities by working closely with trusted partners, especially our local authority colleagues.”
Ann Santry, chief executive of Sovereign, said: “Gordon brings huge experience, understands the importance of affordable housing and has a thoughtful, collaborative style that will make sure Sovereign continues to build homes and provide a good service to our residents and communities. I look forward to working closely with him in the years ahead.”
