The Trump Organisation is bidding to build affordable housing as part of its Aberdeenshire development

Documents submitted to Aberdeenshire Council show that the company founded by Donald Trump plans to make 25% of the homes affordable, in accordance with the council’s policies.

The homes will be ’affordable key worker apartments’, planning documents say.

The organisation, which is run by the US president’s sons Eric and Don Jr, is planning to spend £150m on the development, which is the second of five phases planned for the area.

As well as the homes, this phase will include roads and infrastructure to support future development, 50 hotel cottages, a sports centre, shops and other amenities.

According to the planning statement submitted to the local authority, the development “will deliver affordable housing in accordance with the council’s requirements”, which, it says, are to include 25% affordable housing.

Originally, it had planned to build 850 homes but reduced the number, it said, “to ensure compliance with the housing allocation within the development plan”.

The first tranche of development will be 85 high-end homes and 27 “affordable key worker apartments”.

Later phases will, according to the statement, “continue to bring forward each component of the original vision for the site, which is to create a world-class visitor destination and residential community offering the highest-quality golf, leisure and homeowner facilities”.

A spokesperson for Trump Aberdeen, said: “Affordable apartments are included within the detailed application for the first chapter. Further information will be available in due course.”

Inside Housing has contacted the White House for comment.

When the plans were submitted in July, Eric Trump said: “We own a truly phenomenal property along the coast of North East Scotland and remain fully committed to our long-term vision for the site.

“The timing is now right for us to release the next phase of investment and the significant economic benefits this brings. Initial interest to our plans have been incredible and, subject to detailed planning approval, we are aiming to break ground next year.”

At the time, Sarah Malone, executive vice-president of Trump International in Aberdeen, added: “After extensive market research we are bringing forward a suite of luxury homes and five-star hotel cottages which we believe meet the needs and demands of consumers today.

“From the outset, our vision was to create a world-class leisure destination and sustainable community defined by quality and authenticity.”
