Wheatley Developments Scotland is a team of around 50 professionals who delivered more affordable housing than any other Scottish developer last year. They completed 1,021 new homes against a target of 805, with 69% at social rent and the remainder offered at mid-market rent.

The team excels at transforming complex brownfield sites into thriving communities, and strong partnership working with councils and local communities is fundamental to the successful delivery of these projects.

Financial stewardship is another hallmark of the team’s success. The average cost of £230,000 per home was achieved without cross-subsidy, ensuring long-term financial stability for the new developments and supporting Wheatley’s continued A+ credit rating. Nearly 16% of the new homes achieved Energy Performance Certificate Band A ratings, up from 4% the previous year, reflecting a clear focus on energy efficiency.

Beyond construction, the team has secured more than £400,000 in community benefits, supporting local employment, training and community initiatives, and ensuring social value is embedded in every project. This team’s work exemplifies strategic, customer-centred development that strengthens communities and delivers long-term value across Scotland.

The judges said:

“This team delivered more homes for social rent than anyone else in the UK – an impressive performance and a worthy winner as a result. They are what every team should aspire to”

Highly commended:
