Homelessness charities affected by COVID-19 are now able to apply for emergency funding totalling £5.5m #ukhousing

The deadline for submissions is 3 August 2020 and awards must be spent within six months of receipt of funds, or by 19 April 2021 #ukhousing

Of the total fund, £4.82m is provided by The National Lottery Community Fund and £680,000 is from Comic Relief.

It is in addition to the £6m in emergency funding that was previously provided to homelessness charities by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

This first round of funding received almost 300 applications and was split between 133 homelessness charities.

As with the previous round of grants, the fund will be managed by membership organisation Homeless Link.

Applicants must be frontline organisations with a turnover of less than £5m and more than half of the organisation’s beneficiaries must be people experiencing homelessness.

The deadline for submissions is 3 August 2020 and awards must be spent within six months of receipt of funds, or by 19 April 2021.

The funding is part of a £750m emergency package for charities announced by chancellor Rishi Sunak in response to the COVID-19 crisis in April.

Rick Henderson, chief executive of Homeless Link, said: “We are glad to be able to provide this additional critical relief to frontline services impacted by coronavirus, enabling even more of them to continue to provide vital support for people experiencing homelessness as the country moves into the next phase of its COVID-19 response and beyond.

“We are aware that demand for this funding will be incredibly high and anticipate having to make some difficult decisions. We advise charities to consider all relevant funds that can be applied to at this time.”
