Housing minister John Healey has called for people living in shared ownership homes to be able to sell some of the equity in their homes back to their landlord.
Speaking last week at a Fabian Society debate on the future of housing, Healey expanded on plans to inject an extra £100 million into the homebuy direct scheme mooted in the government’s pre-Budget report.
He explained: ‘In the future, I’d like to see it be just as easy to sell equity in your home back to the council, housing association or co-operative, allowing people flexible tenure in the same property, that adapts to their circumstances.’
