A survey finds that the Grenfell tragedy has led to a significant boost in hiring in the construction sector, and a legal challenge is brewing over the ethnic diversity of the inquiry panel

Is it right to talk about any positives at all from the fire in west London, which killed at least 80 people in June?
Probably not. But a survey of around 2,000 British employers by US recruitment firm Manpower has suggested that the tragedy has at least boosted recruitment significantly in the construction sector.
Several newspapers, including the Financial Times here, have covered the report and Manpower’s conclusion that this could be the “strongest fourth quarter for hiring in the construction sector since 2005”.
“Grenfell spurs worker demand” says the headline of The Telegraph’s piece about the research, written by former Inside Housing reporter Rhiannon Bury.
In other Grenfell news, a group called BME Lawyers 4 Grenfell has gone to the High Court at the eleventh hour in an attempt to challenge the composition of the inquiry panel.
The group believes the Grenfell inquiry panel is not religiously or ethnically diverse enough and wants a judicial review against the prime minister’s decision. The inquiry is due to begin on Thursday.
In a final piece of Grenfell news overnight, the Metropolitan Police are understood to be looking into reports that money was stolen from one of the Grenfell flats.
Elsewhere, The Guardian has a piece on what it calls “shamefully shoddy” student housing and Oxford City Council has announced it is trebling its new build development via its housing company.

I don’t think we involve boards properly - need a good understanding of digital at the very top.
