Is 3D printing the future of social housing? #ukhousing

In the news

The BBC asks if 3D printing is the future of social housing, following the completion of a home built with 3D printers in France. The property was built in just 54 hours at a cost of £176,000 and the team responsible think they could repeat the process in just 33 hours.

Our report – and our reports from each day of the inquiry – can be found here.

Also on Grenfell, Architects Journal runs a comment piece calling for architects to be allowed to “see projects through to the end” to prevent the kind of design flaws which may have contributed to the disaster.

Elsewhere, the National Housing Federation has released a note for members setting out its view on the government’s cladding guidance.

In among a lot of news to mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS is a report covered in depth in The Independent about how better housing can reduce hospital admissions.

And finally, website Scottish Housing News carries a report of yesterday’s protest about Glasgow Council’s homelessness record.

On social media

Paul Hackett, chair of the G15, responds to the Shelter research:

And Shelter’s chief executive Polly Neate tweets about how social landlords can sometimes reinforce the stigma against social tenants:
