The devolved governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have reacted to the Grenfell Tower disaster by reviewing fire safety regulations and carrying out checks on high rise blocks.
Kevin Stewart, Scottish Government minister for local government and housing, announced last week in a letter to landlords that he would form a short-term ministerial working group to review fire safety regulations in the country.
The Scottish Housing Regulator has told landlords to identify any fire safety issues in tower blocks and inform it of any potential risks.
The Welsh Government has said it will set up an expert group including social housing and fire sector representatives to examine the lessons from the tragedy.
Carl Sargeant, cabinet secretary for communities and children, said that installing sprinklers in new housing and as part of refurbishment programmes is required by Welsh Government legislation.
The Northern Ireland Housing Executive, which owns and manages all of the region’s tower blocks, said it is carrying out checks to ensure the buildings comply with fire safety regulations.
