A Thames Gateway development that could see the creation of 10,800 homes has finally left the starting blocks after gaining planning permission by Barking & Dagenham Council.
The east London borough has also agreed the section 106 planning deal on the Barking Riverside project, which will ensure that 30 per cent of the new homes are affordable.
The major development will be built through a joint venture company set up by Bellway and the government's regeneration agency English Partnerships. The project began in 2003. The first homes are expected to be built by the end of next year.
