The contractor which refurbished Grenfell Tower last year has threatened Camden Council with legal action.
Rydon also carried out works on the Chalcots Estate in Camden through a £150m private finance initiative, installing similar polyethylene core aluminium cladding to what was used on Grenfell Tower.
Camden Council has taken steps to remove the cladding and has evacuated more than 700 flats on the estate over fire safety concerns following the devastating fire at Grenfell Tower.
Georgia Gould, leader of Camden Council, previously said the panels fitted in the Chalcots Estate refurbishment “were not to the standard that we had commissioned” and warned that the authority would be seeking urgent legal advice.
The Guardian reported this morning that Robert Bond, chief executive of Rydon, has written to Camden saying that these “inflammatory statements are highly damaging to our reputation and our business and will be defended by us in the strongest terms possible”.
He added: “Given the seriousness of these allegations, I have no choice but to refer this matter to our legal advisors and to seek recourse from the council for the damage inflicted on this business.”
A spokesperson for Rydon confirmed that the quotes were accurate.
Camden Council has been approached for comment.
