Wood Wharf

Developer Canary Wharf Group had its plan for the13.6 hectare site Wood Wharf accepted by the London mayor yesterday.

The development will have at least 25% affordable homes - up to 900 homes. However, the Greater London Authority has said there will be a review mechanism in place which could see the number of affordable homes rise to 40 per cent. The affordable homes will be broken down to 80% affordable rent and 20% intermediate housing.

Wood Wharf is situated in the north east of the Isle of Dogs next to Canary Wharf in Tower Hamlets.

Canary Wharf Group will be contributing £60m towards Crossrail and an additional £27.5 million for other infrastructure needs.

Mr Johnson said: ‘This vast development will transform a currently derelict brownfield site beyond all comprehension into a thriving new community with thousands of new homes and jobs. This is exactly the kind of scheme that we need to accommodate London’s booming population that is set to break through the nine million mark within the next decade.’

The application was approved by Tower Hamlets Council in July 2014.
