Housebuilding in Northern Ireland hit its highest level for four years in April to June this year.
The Northern Ireland Housing Bulletin, which is published by the Department for Social Development, shows there were 1,828 homes started in the second quarter of 2015. This is 10% higher than for the same period last year and the highest quarterly total since 2011.
The number of low-cost rent homes more than doubled to 421 over the same period. The number of homeless households qualifying for full assistance during the same period was down 13% from 12 months ago.
Justin Cartwright, policy and public affairs officer at the Chartered Institute of Housing Northern Ireland, said: “These statistics point to a stabilising housing market – we now need to make the most of the green shoots of recovery to tackle the chronic housing shortage.”
