A new chief executive designate has been appointed to oversee a proposed merger between two Welsh housing associations.
The boards of Tai Ceredigion and Mid-Wales Housing Association have selected Steve Jones, current chief executive of the former, to be their new boss following a competitive recruitment process.
Tai Ceredigion and Mid-Wales Housing, which own 2,260 and 1,500 homes respectively, announced that they were in discussions over a possible “collaboration” in January 2018.
Mr Jones will lead the next phase of the merger project, which will involve the development of a full business case, with an early focus on the detailed financial positions of both organisations.
The shadow board will be meeting next week to agree on the work programme that the senior management teams of both organisations will be tasked to carry out over the coming months.
Mr Jones said: “After working closely with the board members and Tai Ceredigion tenant monitoring group over the last 10 years, and with the board and tenant representatives of Mid-Wales Housing over the last 18 months, I am delighted to be given this opportunity to continue to further develop the full business case for the proposed first ever voluntary merger between a dowry-funded [large-scale voluntary transfer] and a traditional [registered social landlord] in Wales.
“Tenants and staff representatives were involved in the appointments process in both my current and my new role, and I look forward to developing the final business case in consultation with and with the involvement of tenants and staff.”
