Stonewater and Wondrwall

This is the second award to go to the collaboration between Stonewater and Wondrwall. The latter’s AI energy management platform has driven significant leaps in sustainability at Stonewater’s 20-home Mendip View development. As well as the £23,000 annual energy bill savings enjoyed collectively by all 20 households, the scheme is saving 20 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year and is cutting energy usage by 110,000 kWh.
By understanding residents’ living patterns, the system only heats the rooms being used at certain times of the day or week, avoiding wasted energy. It can also automatically buy energy from the grid when prices are lowest, to recharge the home’s battery for use during peak times.
Stonewater’s Star Ground development is already benefiting from the lessons learned at Mendip View. In the six months since Wondrwall’s system has been in operation there, residents’ energy bills have been reduced by 37% – an average saving of £359 for each household – with net CO2 emissions at around one-fifth of those of an average home.
The judges said:
“A well-constructed submission with clear, measurable targets across a range of outputs and an extensive programme focused on nature recovery. This plan could serve as a blueprint for other areas across the UK”
