Welcome Building, Trammell Crow Company

Sponsored by:

This project was informed from the outset by a vision to deliver a workplace of the future for the modern occupier. The Welcome Building is net zero carbon in operation and is one of Bristol’s first all-electric workspace buildings, powered entirely by renewable energy. Compared to an ordinary equivalent building, it saved 10,000 tonnes of embodied carbon – equivalent to more than 6,000 return flights from Bristol to New York – through Trammell Crow’s design and construction choices.
It’s the first office in the city to extract its entire heat load from the zero-carbon Castle Park water source heat pump via the Bristol Heat Network, lowering operational costs and boosting energy resilience. It incorporates rooftop solar panels, low-carbon materials and efficient building systems, achieving a projected 40% cut in CO2 emissions and water use. Additionally, the building enriches local biodiversity, attracting wildlife by incorporating green and brown roofs.
The Welcome Building is Energy Performance Certificate Band A, is targeting a BREEAM ‘outstanding’ rating, and has achieved a NABERS 5-star rating, alongside WiredScore Platinum and SmartScore Gold certifications for its digital connectivity.
The judges said:
“This project is all about performance – targeting and achieving a huge array of top-tier certifications while delivering net-zero operation and strong tenant well-being. The connectivity to the Bristol Heat Network is a big win”
