The Carbon Literacy Project is championing climate action across the housing and built environment sectors by delivering training that inspires real, measurable change.

Its sessions empower individuals at every level – from directors to frontline workers – to take practical, context-specific steps towards decarbonisation. Following training sessions at one housing association, for example, two directors who had been waiting for charging infrastructure to be installed before electrifying their fleet decided to install the charging facilities themselves. It’s a powerful example of how the project’s work can spur meaningful change across organisations, both large and small. With a strong focus on equity and accessibility, the team supports disadvantaged communities through its Community Pot, which was opened in 2024 to ensure everyone has a voice in the transition to net zero.

Housing organisations have made several pledges via the pot, from fitting water-saving devices in void properties to upskilling engineers in renewable systems and embedding carbon considerations into strategic decision-making. This organisation is equipping the sector with the tools, knowledge and confidence needed to tackle the climate crisis.

The judges said:

“This is a clear leader with a proven track record of raising carbon literacy at scale. Impressive metrics and impact. Sets a high standard for reach, replicability and embedded sustainability education”
