New: Redplug® blown passive fire barrier system revolutionises the remedial cavity barrier market

The issues facing buildings needing cavity barrier remediation post-Grenfell are almost unimaginable. The cost, logistics and resources needed to undertake conventional mitigation repairs are of a significant scale, not to mention the likely decanting of properties, upheaval to the local area and the environmental impact of demolishing and rebuilding the brickwork.
Consequently, Redplug® has developed the Red-Stop® system to help owners of buildings needing cavity fire barrier remediation by utilising blown stone mineral wool. Stone wool products are natural, fibrous materials with excellent thermal and sound-insulating properties.
Stone mineral wool also offers excellent performance for the fire protection of residential areas and industrial structures. The product will not settle, ensuring that once installed to the desired area it will remain in place. Our stone wool is produced from volcanic minerals such as basalt, limestone, dolomite and bauxite.
The Red-Stop® system is installed to help stop fire and smoke spread through voids in the cavity walls to enable successful evacuation. The system will also help with maintaining the resilience of the building while bringing uplifts to its thermal and acoustic performance.
Our quality assurance processes, backed by both UK and European testing standards, give designers, fire professionals and building operators the information they need to specify our system and successfully protect both buildings and their inhabitants.
With over 40 years’ construction experience, our managing director Michael Harley personally oversees the development of every new stone wool solution carried out by Redplug®. RedStop® typically delivers financial savings of between 80% and 400% depending on the project, with project durations cut fivefold compared to many alternatives.
There are no height restrictions to the system, and we are experienced in working on exposed and complicated sites, sometimes even un-decanted properties. The occupants’ experience is a key factor in our delivery.
A typical example of a Red-Stop® installation was undertaken at Berkeley Group’s development at the Hamptons, Worcester Park in west London. The timber-framed building to be remediated was the sister building to a previous timber frame complex administered by Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing, which had suffered a catastrophic fire (fortunately, with no injuries to the occupants).
Redplug® successfully completed the full fill to the cavities with minimal fuss or impact on the local community, and the residents can take comfort that their building is deemed remediated and safe. Redplug® continues to grow year on year by maintaining a focus on the very best solutions and a total dedication to quality and our customers’ needs.
The RedStop® full fill blown passive fire barrier system is at the core of our business. Our clients range from major developers and contractors to building managers, owners and investors who require a responsible specialist that can offer a benchmarked solution to mitigate many fire remediation problems.
Redplug® is ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management certified and holds SafeContractor and Constructionline certifications. We are also a member of the Fire Protection Association.
