The chief executive of Luminus has resigned from the organisation and left with immediate effect.
Chan Abraham handed in his notice and left the company on Wednesday, according to a statement from Luminus.
The news comes after a turbulent year for the 7,300-home association, which was downgraded to non-compliant G3 for governance by the Homes and Communities Agency [HCA] in January after it concluded tenants were at risk of “serious detriment” through Luminus’s failure to carry out up-to-date gas safety checks.
An internal audit by Luminus revealed that more than 1,000 homes had not had a valid gas safety certificate for at least some part of the previous two years.
The Health and Safety Executive is investigating Luminus over its compliance with gas safety legislation.
The board did not inform the regulator and “did not seek to understand the root causes of the failure”, the HCA said. It said Luminus is adopting new policies as a result.
Chair Mike Forrest said: “The board is grateful for many years of service Dr Abraham has given to Luminus.”
The association has not yet announced who will stand in as interim chief executive.
