In the news

It comes as Clare Tickell, the chief executive of Hanover housing association, on Inside Housing today calls for new funding for housing with support to enable to reduce pressure on public services.

Elsewhere, the Grenfell Inquiry has resumed, and with it moving tales from firefighters. The Daily Mail reports the ‘freaky’ story of a firefighter who found three children unharmed on an upper floor.

An editorial in The Guardian newspaper last night calls for private renters to have more rights. It warns that a ‘two-track’ rental market is developing. It said: “We should all be concerned about the low-income households on the lower track, who have been forced to rent privately because of the shortage of council housing.” The piece follows yesterday’s report by academics Julie Rugg and David Rhodes on the state of the private rented sector.

Bournemouth Borough Council is planning to borrow an extra £14.5m to buy properties to house homeless people, the Daily Echo has reported.
