The English social housing regulator will continue its current approach to investigating and reporting on landlords’ performance during the new lockdown, it has confirmed.
In a statement issued today, the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) said it will keep “the successful arrangements we put in place in the second half of 2020” as the country once again faces a period of tough restrictions to limit the spread of COVID-19.
In-depth assessments (IDA) of social housing providers will continue to be carried out remotely, a system that the RSH said has “worked well” since the programme was restarted in the summer.
Current work on less stringent stability checks will be completed, while the regulator will continue to engage with social landlords dealing with governance concerns.
Data for the Coronavirus Operational Response Survey (CORS), launched in April, will now be collected bi-monthly rather than monthly.
The RSH will review the CORS again in the spring.
Providers will still be expected to supply the RSH with Quarterly Survey data according to existing timetables.
Repeating its promise to “be proportionate and take full account of the circumstances when responding to compliance issues”, the RSH urged providers with concerns about data submission and IDA timings or potentially serious regulatory issues to get in touch.
“We recognise that this is a difficult time for everybody. Social housing providers have responded well to the challenges they have faced and we expect that to continue in the future,” it said.
The approach will be kept under review “in the coming months”, the regulator added.
